Rob Williams: More options at CVG

FOX19 -

Recently Allegiant Air announced operation expansion plans at CVG along with two new destinations.  The low-cost carrier will soon fly to Destin Florida and our nation’s capital, Washington D.C.

The new flights will increase Allegiant’s destination from CVG to 14.  The new flights don’t begin for a few months at least, but low prices already being offered.  Some as low as $39 dollars one-way.

I snagged a round trip ticket to D.C.  I got a ticket for about that much, however when you add in the extra fees and taxes it came out to $190 dollar round trip.  Still pretty cheap, especially at CVG which historically had some of the most expensive tickets prices in the country.

Average fares are still high but are now lower thanks to airlines like Allegiant and Frontier. Low cost carriers returned to CVG a few years ago, as our airport transitions from a Delta hub.

My co-anchor Kara got a flight home to Houston on Frontier for $148 dollar round trip.

Frontier announced last week that it was adding the Texas city last week.   I think that is encouraging as low cost carriers succeed at our international airport.

Delta still controls most of the flights at CVG, but I hope there a future where we all win - the airlines and the paying passengers. Any suggestions on what to do in D.C? Email me rwillams@fox19.com
