Thousands of local children are dreaming of the sled riding this weekend, but one 11-year-old boy was sent to the hospital after his sled slammed into a tree.

Noah suffered multiple facial fractures, including a broken nose, and doctors are evaluating his spine for potential injuries. Despite the severity of his injuries Noah is conscious and feeling very positive.

“I can’t believe how good of spirits he’s been in,” Noah’s father Sean McCauley said. “He’s the bravest 11-year-old I’ve ever seen.”

The accident occurred in Noah's backyard near the Boone Links Golf Course. Noah’s family said a lot of kids use the land to go sledding. McCauley told FOX19 NOW that his son getting injured never crossed his mind.

“First run down the hill was with his best friend,” McCauley said. “He was going face first and couldn’t bail out at the last second. He hit a tree with his face, unfortunately.”

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 52,000 sledding accidents occurred in 2014 where people had to be treated for injuries.
