FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) -

A SWAT standoff has ended after a man barricaded himself inside a Florence mobile home for about nine hours.

Police responded to a domestic disturbance call in the Crestview Lakes Villa Mobile Home Park around 11:30 p.m. after a mother said her son barricaded himself inside the mobile home.

The mother was able to get out of the home safely, but her son, Brett Cunningham, 33, barricaded himself inside a bedroom, according to the Boone Co. Sheriff's Department.

Tom Scheben, Public Information Officer of the Boone Co. Sheriff's Office, says Cunningham became combative once officers arrived to the scene late Saturday night.

A chemical irritant was used inside the bedroom and SWAT officials breached the room's door to take the Cunningham into custody Sunday morning, Scheben said.

Residents near the area were safely evacuated police said.

Cunningham was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Florence for a psychological evaluation. Criminal charges are likely, according to the Boone Co. Sheriff's Department.
