CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY (FOX19) -

Thomas More College fired their director of campus safety Thursday after he was charged with 36 counts related to child porn possession.

Robert Marshall, 52, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, according to jail records. He’s held at the Kenton County Jail under a charge of possessing or viewing a material portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

Covington Police say an investigation into Marshall started two years ago. A witness reported the material on Marshall's home computer.

A grand jury indicted Marshall on 36 counts of Possession of a Matter Portraying a Sexual Performance by a Minor. He's facing a maximum of 20-years in prison, according to the Kenton County Prosecutor's Office.

TMC President David A. Armstrong J.D. released a statement about Marshall Thursday saying.

"The Thomas More College Community is extremely troubled by the allegations against Rob Marshall. We are a values-based institution, and our thoughts and prayers go out to anybody involved in this difficult situation. "

Armstrong said in a news release that TMC had no prior knowledge of the investigation into Marshall and wasn't aware of it until Wednesday.

Marshall's personal home computer was confiscated from his Covington residence in January of 2014, Armstrong said. He added that assistant Covington Police Chief Brian Steffen told TMC, “Marshall’s computer was in the possession of a forensic examiner for the duration of that time while we were awaiting results. There was never any evidence or indicators that compelled us to broaden our investigation beyond his Covington residence.”

Marshall was hired for the position in July of 1999, according to Armstrong. His position at TMC involved maintaining crime, traffic and accident reports, and issuing parking permits.
