PREBLE COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - Property owners found homemade explosive devices in their mailboxes over the weekend, the Preble County Sheriff's Office announced on its Facebook page.
Deputies responded Saturday to three addresses in Gratis/Somers townships where explosives that were located were a mixture of chemicals in 2-liter pop bottles, the posting states.
"The Butler County Sheriff's Office Special Response Unit was called to assist our office and make these explosives safe," authorities wrote. "The pop bottles were collected after they were made safe and they will be sent off for forensic testing.
We ask that you use caution when checking your mailboxes and contact our office immediately if you discover anything suspicious in your mailbox."
Anyone with information on who is responsible for placing these explosive devices in mailboxes is urged to contact Captain Robert Schneider at the Preble County Sheriff's Office: 937-456-6262.
