Hamilton Co. commissioners call for audit of MSD

HAMILTON COUNTY, OH (FOX19) - The Hamilton County commissioners announced they have called for an audit into the Metropolitan Sewer District's spending of nearly $680 million.

Commissioners Chris Monzel, Dennis Deters and Todd Portune said the MSD spending scandal was uncovered after the Cincinnati Enquirer reviewed 10 years of MSD spending records, including contracts, consulting agreements and government emails.

In a newsletter, Hamilton County commissioners have raised concerns regarding MSD's poor management practices, lack of check and balances, unresponsiveness to Commission oversight requests and skyrocketing project costs.

The Enquirer's investigation showed sewer district's alleged lack of internal controls resulting in project delays, accounting irregularities, frequent change order and stunning waste of public funds, the commissioners announced.
