LEBANON, OH (FOX19) - A 66-year-old man was found dead in a house fire early Thursday, Lebanon fire officials said.
Crews responded to the 400 block of Kuntz Court about 2:15 a.m.
An elderly woman and her son were inside the home when a small fire broke out in a back bedroom, said Lebanon Fire Chief Perry Gerome.
Madeline Thacker was alerted to the blaze by a working fire detector and quickly escaped, he said.
She went to a neighbor's house, where she called 911.
"My house is on fire," she told a dispatcher, according to a recording of the call. "I woke up up with the smoke alarm going and the house is full of smoke. My two sons are in their bedrooms and I can't get them out."
Flames were showing from the home when firefighters arrived.
They put out the fire, which appears to be on a mattress, the chief said. That's where they found the man and were unable to revive him.
Wilson "Scott" Thacker was pronounced dead at the scene, Gerome said.
He was living in the home with his mother and a brother.
American Red Cross is assisting the family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Neighbors said they heard a loud boom early Thursday. When they walked outside to see what the noise was, they saw flames shooting form the front bedroom window.
FOX19 NOW will remain at the scene and continue to update this breaking story throughout the morning.
