Appeal Rejected

Federal appeals panel rejects Schiavo appeal

A lawyer for Terri Schiavo's parents says they're not giving up, despite losing another court decision today.

This time, a federal appeals court panel in Atlanta rejected their emergency request to order Florida doctors to reconnect the feeding tube that had been keeping the severely brain-damaged woman alive. Florida state courts authorized its removal last Friday.

Today's two-to-one ruling expresses great sympathy with Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler. It says, "We all have our own family, our own loved ones and our own children." But it goes on to say that the law does not support a single one of their arguments. The lone dissenter on the panel says there would be no harm in reinserting the tube until the case is fully considered. Florida state courts have all ruled in favor of Schiavo's husband. He says she would not have wanted to live this way.

The Schindler's lawyer says they'll be filing another appeal today. They say their daughter is "fading quickly" and could die at any moment.
