Denise Johnson: Eight is enough

. -

Do you remember the show Eight is enough?  I haven’t thought about that show in years, until this past weekend when I took a picture of my sister’s new family.  I took a picture of the wedding party seated at a table for ten.  The picture was my sister, her new husband and their eight children.  It was so heartwarming to me.

My sister Melissa has been a widow since July of 2011. Her husband Matt was 42 and diagnosed with Stage four esophageal cancer he died nine months later at 43.  Melissa was left to raise their four children alone and heartbroken like many men and women in this situation.

In 2014 my sister met a man that would change her life. Bryon Roman was a divorced father of four (can you see where this story is going?) They decided to take things slow, the kids were able to get to know each other and become friends.  Little did they know that they would someday call each other family.

Falling in love is a wonderful feeling, but when that person can bring out the best in you, you know it is meant to be.  My sister has become a very adventurous person because of Bryon.  In the past year and a half she has learned to wakeboard, snowboard, and snow ski, she even became certified to scuba dive… where did this person come from?  Growing up she hated anything outside, all she wanted to do was read.  That is what love has done for her.

Friday night, February 5th they were married. They became one big happy family.  I took a picture of all of them as they sat together as a new family, I said “say cheese Roman family”, they all looked and me and yelled “BROMAN FAMILY”.  I looked puzzled at them as they explained, they took my sister’s name Bohmer and Bryon’s name Roman and combined them to make the ‘BROMAN FAMILY”.

I couldn’t be happier to have four new nieces and nephews, and to see my sister Melissa as happy as she is now, Mrs. Bryon Roman mother of the Broman Family.
