SPRINGFIELD TWP., OH (FOX19) -

A homeowner was found dead inside a burning Springfield Township house Monday morning.

Firefighters located the body of David Oldham in the kitchen after battling the blaze for nearly two hours, according to officials at the scene. The victim was reportedly in his 60s.

Heavy smoke and flames were exiting the home when crews responded to Timbermill Court near Millbrook Drive just after 9 a.m.

Springfield Township Fire Chief Robert Leininger said the home had hoarding conditions that complicated search efforts.

“There was a lot of fire in here,” said Chief Leininger. “We suspect the fire had been in there for quite a while and then just showed itself this morning.”

Crews also faced issues with frozen fire hydrants around the home. They were forced to bring in water from an adjacent street.

A firefighter slipped on ice and sprained his ankle while working to knock down the fire. Officials say he will recover.

Springfield Township is working with Hamilton County fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire.
