OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) - Streetcar testing shut down a portion of Elm Street at 9 a.m. Friday morning.
Elm will remain closed between 14th and Liberty streets until 4 p.m.
Drivers heading north on Elm will be detoured west onto 14th and north on Central Parkway, east on Liberty and back to Elm.
Detour signs will be posted.
On-street parking also will be prohibited on the east side of Elm while crews test three streetcars.
They will test brake mechanisms on the first two streetcars in the fleet, as well as overall movement and dynamics on the newest vehicle that arrived from the manufacturer last week.
If time allows, crews also will run the newest streetcar around the full 3.6-mile route to check for clearances.
Cincinnati's streetcar is scheduled to begin passenger service in September.
The 3.6-mile loop will extend from The Banks to Findlay Market through Downtown and Over the Rhine.
