HIGHLAND COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

One person died in a crash involving a school bus and car just after 7 a.m. Monday, according to the Highland County Sheriff's Office.

A  bus from Bright Local Schools was rear-ended as it began to pull away after picking up a student, said Superintendent Ted Downing. The crash happened on Stringtown Road at Ohio 321 just outside Mowrystown.

Troopers identified the driver as Helen Dean, 54, of Sardinia. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus was carrying about 15-18 middle and high school students at the time, Downing said.

Three students were taken to a hospital in Mt. Orab with non-life threatening injuries, he said.

Another three students were taken in private vehicles to a hospital to be checked out, he added.

The crash remains under investigation.
