NEW ALSACE, IND (FOX19 NOW) -

The shooting death of a three-year-old boy shot to death in New Alsace, Indiana was ruled an accident, according to the Dearborn County coroner.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a shooting on Van Wedding Road at around 5:05 p.m. near Sunman Friday evening.

Officials said Christopher Griffith, 3, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest inside the home.

"Anyone who is involved in something like this it is about as bad as it gets when it involves a child," said Brian Jansen of the Dearborn County Sheriff's Department.

Griffith was shot by a .357 Magnum handgun, according to the Dearborn County Sheriff's Department.

No word if the parents were home at the time of the incident. The question of who fired the fatal shot is still under investigation.
