911 calls released in Fort Mitchell carjacking

FORT MITCHELL, KY (FOX19) - Police in this Northern Kentucky community are seeking a suspect they say carjacked a 77-year-old grandmother at a grocery store in broad daylight.

The incident was reported around noon Wednesday at Remke's Market at the intersection of Dixie Highway and Orphanage Road.

Police said the man approached the elderly woman with a gun.

He "told her he needed her vehicle and displayed a handgun that he had in the waistband of his pants," police said.

The woman got out of the car, and the suspect took off with it, they said.

Police could only give a vague description of the suspect. He has a dark complexion, is in his mid-20s and is 5-foot-9.

He has a thin build and wore a black baseball cap that was possibly on backwards and a blue or gray jacket.

Investigators are checking business in the area to see if they have surveillance video that may have captured images of the suspect or crime.

The stolen vehicle is a 2002 black Toyota Camry with Kentucky license plate 736-THV. It also has a softball-size dent under the rear license plate and missing driver side rear hubcap.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. Call 859-331-2823 in Kentucky or 513-352-3040 in Ohio.
