Cincinnati’s projected Opening Day starter Anthony DeSclafani got the win and Adam Duvall drove in two runs in the Reds’ 9-1 win over the Indians at Goodyear Ballpark on Thursday.
Brandon Phillips went hitless in two at-bats, but drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Joey Votto reached base twice on two walks and scored a run. Jay Bruce went 1-for-3 with a double.
Duvall, who came to the Reds in the Mike Leake trade to the Giants, is one of the many players fighting for the starting spot in left field. He delivered in his spring debut going 1-for-2 with a 2-out single scoring two runs. Juan Duran pitched in with a solo home run.
DeSclafani (W, 1-0) struck out one batter over two innings with no hits allowed and no earned runs. The Reds’ expected closer J.J. Hoover pitched one inning, allowing one hit, one walk and one run.
The Reds (2-0-1) return to action against the Giants and their ace Madison Bumgarner on Friday at 3:05 EST.
