Boeing develops 'self-cleaning' airplane bathrooms

FOX19 - Boeing engineers have spent the last year developing a self-cleaning bathroom for its planes.

The facilities are bathed in ultraviolet (UV) light for 3 seconds, killing 99.9 percent of germs.

The light would flood touch surfaces like the toilet seat, sink and counter tops every time a passenger leaves.

This process also helps to eliminate odors.

The light is not harmful and is different than UV lights that cause skin cancer.

No word on when we will see the technology on our next flight.

Boeing has applied to patent for the concept.
