UNION TOWNSHIP, CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) – - An Amelia middle school sixth-grade student is in police custody after threatening to harm another student, West Clermont Local School officials announced Tuesday.
A social media post Monday night "revealed that a student was planning to harm another student in school today," school officials posted to the district's Facebook page just before 9 a.m.
Union Township police and West Clermont administrators worked together to identify the student, who was taken into custody about midnight.
The school was never in any danger, school officials wrote.
The social media post came from a concerned mother whose student told her about the threat.
"Students want to be safe in school. This is a reminder that we should teach our children that if they see something unusual they should tell an adult," school officials wrote.
"We have advised our staff to contact the office if they encounter upset students today. Our counselors are available to help any students in need.
Safety is a top priority in the West Clermont school district, they wrote.
"We are proud of our students for reporting the threat, and wish to thank the local law-enforcement agencies for that their help in keeping our schools a safe place. Remember, if you "See something, say something."
