National Meatball Day: Denise Johnson recipe

In honor of National Meatball Day Wednesday, FOX19 NOW Traffic Reporter Denise Johnson is sharing her family meatball recipe:


  • 1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef ( you can use ground turkey)
  • 1 Bag of croutons crushed into smaller chunks (garlic butter flavored)
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp oregano
  • ¼  tsps. salt
  • ¼  tsps. Garlic powder (if you use Garlic salt you can skip the regular salt)
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon pepper
  • ¼ cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg


  • Heat oven to 400°F. Line 13x9-inch pan with foil; spray with cooking spray.
  • In large bowl, mix all ingredients. Shape mixture into 20 to 24 (1 1/2-inch) meatballs. Place 1 inch apart on cooking sheet
  • Bake uncovered 18 to 22 minutes or until no longer pink in center 
  • Add to your favorite sauce
