Mack named National Coach of the Year by writers

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Xavier men's basketball head coach Chris Mack has won the Henry Iba Award for National Coach of the Year by the National Writers' Association.

Mack has led the Musketeers to a 26-4 (14-4 in the Big East) regular season record and a No. 5 national ranking in both the coaches' and AP poll.

The 26 regular season wins ties a school record.

Mack is in his seventh season with the Musketeers with a combined record of1 60-75 (.681), which ranks second all-time in career wins at Xavier.

The Henry Iba Award is named in honor of the Oklahoma State coach who won 655 games and two national championships in 36 seasons at OSU. The award is voted by all USBWA.

The Musketeers enter the BIG EAST Tournament as the No. 2 seed. Xavier plays its first game Thursday night at Madison Square Garden in New York against the winner of the St. John's-Marquette game.
