Recipe: Denise Johnson's Pineapple-Cherry Dump Cake

Pineapple-Cherry Dump Cake (FOX19 NOW/Denise Johnson) Pineapple-Cherry Dump Cake (FOX19 NOW/Denise Johnson)

In honor of Rob Williams' last day in the mornings Friday before he moves next week to the evening news, I was supposed to make him a sausage, egg and cheese casserole.

Instead, I made his favorite dump cake.

We have an oven in the studio, so while it bakes it makes everything smell sweet.

And I had to do something cover up the smell of Rob’s peas and fish sticks!

The dump cake was gone in about 15 minutes.

Everyone loves it here. It is so easy, I thought I would share it with you.

You only need four ingredients and it takes no mixing:

  • 1 box white or yellow cake mix
  • 1 can of crushed pineapple (in its own juice)
  • 1 can of cherry pie filling
  • 1 ½ sticks of butter

  • In a 9 x 12 pan
  • Preheat oven to 350
  • Dump the can of pineapple,
  • Dump the can of cherry filling on top and spread it out
  • Dump the cake mix and smooth it evenly across the top
  • Melt the butter and pour it as evenly as possible across the top of the cake mix
  • Bake it for 30 to 40 minutes, until bubbly and golden on top

If you serve it hot, you can add vanilla ice cream.

You can also make it with cherry filling and peach filling or apple and cherry filling.
