FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) – - The Kentucky Department of Transportation is looking at options to relieve congestion on Mt. Zion Road.
Several ideas have been proposed, but state transportation officials indicate the double crossover diamond (DCD) would be the safest and least congested drive for the area of KY 536 (Mt. Zion) at the interchange of Interstate 71/75.
Missouri was the US state to use the DCD, back in 2009. There are only 17 DCD Interchanges in the country.
Lexington was the first city in Kentucky to use the DCD concept.
This has decreased accidents by 30 percent in Lexington as the volume of traffic has increased, state records show.
The Mt. Zion project is in the preliminary design phase. Construction would not start until 2018.
What do you think of the design?
