FRANKLIN COUNTY, IN (FOX19) -

The Franklin County Auditor accused of stealing more than $1,000 from an Indiana service club checking account is behind bars.

Stephen Brack appeared in court Tuesday and was given a $15,000 bond.

Investigators say Brack wrote checks to himself and to “cash” using the Brookville Kiwanis Club checkbook, according to an affidavit filed in the Franklin Circuit Court.

Auditor Brack is a former treasurer of the club.

Court documents state Brack admitted to writing the Kiwanis Club checks for personal use, saying he acted “irresponsible.”

Between Oct. 2013 and March 2015, Brack is accused of writing 10 checks to himself or to “cash,” totaling $1,488.

He is charged with two counts of felony theft.

The Kiwanis Club discovered problems with financial records in December 2015 and contacted state police detectives.
