A University of Cincinnati professor is under investigation for allegedly receiving and distributing child pornography.

The Cincinnati Division FBI confirms Holt Parker was arrested at his home in the Clifton area Tuesday.

He had an initial appearance in federal court Tuesday afternoon.

Parker is charged with distribution and receipt of child pornography, according to Cincinnati FBI public affairs specialist Todd Lindgren.  Parker is also charged with destruction of property to prevent seizure.

Per policy, Parker has been suspended from his position, barred from university property, and is to have no contact with students, according to UC.

UC released a statement Tuesday saying.

The University of Cincinnati has learned today that Holt N. Parker, a professor in Classics, has been arrested on child pornography charges.  The University takes these charges very seriously and is cooperating fully with authorities.  Per University policy, Parker has been suspended from his position, barred from University property, and is to have no contact with students.

The criminal complaint filed against Parker alleges he told the FBI, “he recently downloaded thousands of files of child pornography to [his] device.” It goes on to read he allegedly, “apologized to his wife for his behavior and ruining their lives.” The FBI said during an interview he told them if he had ever gotten caught, “his plan was to commit suicide.”

The investigation started In July of 2015. The complaint reads that Yahoo! Inc., reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that two email accounts connected with Parker sent two files containing child pornography to another email address.

Yahoo told investigators they saw the emails in September of 2014. The complaint reads “multiple chat messages were observed where the user of the account discussed trading images and videos with other users.”

The FBI said one of the videos includes a 15 second video of a nude female who is 12 to 13-years-old. Another video is of two prepubescent children performing a sex act.

The complaint reads that in the chat rooms, Parker would exchanges messages with others, asking for videos. Documents show that in another chatroom a man said he has video of a 4-year-old “crying” during a sex act. Parker allegedly responded, “love that,” “show me,” “please!”

Parker has been with the University since 1991. A detention hearing is scheduled for Parker on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
