Terri Schiavo dies
For 15 years, she was kept alive on a feeding tube -- prompting an epic legal and medical battle that would divide the nation. And now, family representatives say Terri Schiavo has died.
A lawyer for her husband, Michael Schiavo, says the brain-damaged woman died quietly today. She was taken off a feeding tube March 18th. Speaking outside the Florida hospice where she lived, an adviser to her parents said they were inside "praying by her bedside."
The parents and husband had fought for years over ending her life. Her husband said she would not want to be kept alive this way. Her parents insisted that she could recover, and that she was not in a vegetative state. Congress, the White House and even the Vatican weighed in on her case.
