SYMMES TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A motorist in custody after a short police chase on southbound Interstate 71 overnight, according to Hamilton County dispatchers.

The male driver of a red pickup truck suspected to be under the influence of alcohol fled a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy on Fields Ertel Road near I-71 in Symmes Township at 2:30 a.m. Thursday, they said.

A pursuit ensued onto the southbound lanes of the highway and ended a few miles later, past the Stewart Road exit at 2:39 a.m., they said.

The driver was taken into custody.

His name and charges were not immediately available.

Several sheriff's cruisers were at the scene. Traffic was diverted onto the left lane for a short time.

The red pickup truck was towed from the scene.
