Jobs creation weaker than thought, jobless rate declines

The Labor Department says employers added 110-thousand jobs to payrolls last month. That's about half the gain analysts were looking for.

It is the smallest increase since last July. In addition, estimates for job growth for January and February were revised lower. Job losses within retail and manufacturing sectors were offset somewhat by gains in professional and business services, construction, education and health care.

The news appears to be going over ok on Wall Street, where inflation worries have been a drag on trading recently. At the same time, the unemployment rate fell two-tenths of one percent to five-point-two percent. The two numbers are based on separate surveys done by the government.
