The Archbishop of Washington, DC says he's praying that God will take Pope John Paul "peacefully."
Cardinal Theodore McCarrick says he's hearing from Rome that the pope is "sinking." McCarrick spoke to reporters outside St. Matthew's Cathedral before leading a Mass for the pope. He says the Mass will be for John Paul's recovery -- if that is God's will -- or for what he calls "the grace of a happy death" in which the pope does not suffer.
McCarrick says he is praying that God will "take him peacefully," and he asks everyone else to also join in prayer.
