BOONE COUNTY, KY (FOX19) -
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office said a mother and her boyfriend abused and tortured a three-year-old boy over a period of four days.
Tiffany Herbers and James Anderson are facing criminal abuse charges. Anderson is also charged with assault.
Herbers’ son had severe bruising on his head, face, neck, torso, ears and buttocks and a busted lip when he was taken to the hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies recently received an anonymous tip urging a welfare check at a home on Donaldson Highway.
“There they spoke to the child’s mother, Tiffany Herbers, who informed them the boy was out with her boyfriend, James Anderson,” states a release from the sheriff’s office.
Shortly after the welfare check, Anderson dropped off the boy to relatives, who immediately took him to the hospital.
Detectives determined the abuse took place between March 16 and March 20.
"If this man did this then he is a monster and needs to pay for what he has done to that baby," a woman who lived in a multi-family home with Herbers and Anderson said.
The woman, who wished to stay anonymous, said Herbers and Anderson had their own separate entrance to the building on Donaldson Hwy, and that no one saw or heard any of the alleged abuse.
"He's such a sweet baby, I feel bad for hime," the woman said, "Real sweet and loves attention that's where my heart breaks. I wish we could have seen the signs, keep this from happening. It's just sickening."
The boy suffered non-life threatening injuries and is expected to recover, according to officials.
Officials tell FOX19 NOW that the mother had custody of the baby for one week per month.
Anderson and Herbers are currently being held at the Boone County Detention Center. Anderson is being held on $250,000 bond, while Herbers is held on $100,000.
