Badin basketball brings back former state title coach

HAMILTON, OH - Badin High School announced on Thursday that Gerry Weisgerber will return as the boy's head basketball coach.

Weisgerber, 62, coached the Rams between 1981-1999 and guided Badin to a perfect 28-0 season and the Division III state title in 1988. The Rams reached the Division II state semifinals in 1997 and 1998.

Weisgerber left Badin in 1999 to become the athletic director and assistant principal of Lakota West High School.

He has been the assistant coach under Matt Thompson at Badin the last two seasons.

"When I first came over to assist Matt, I had no thought of coming back the head coach," Weisgerber said. "But about the middle of this season, Matt was talking about stepping down, and I felt like 'yes, I can do this again.'"

Badin Athletic Director Geoff Melzer made the announcement official to the team Thursday afternoon.

"I'm excited- how can you not be?" said Melzer. "Gerry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the job. His track record speaks for itself."
