MT. ADAMS, OH (FOX19) - Thousands are expected to pray the steps at Holy Cross Immaculata Catholic Church in Mt. Adams Friday.
It's a Good Friday tradition dating back more than 150 years.
During the construction of the church, the Archbishop at the time asked that people prayed for the church and that's how the pilgrimage was born.
Parishioners FOX19 NOW spoke to say they've been taking part in the tradition as long as they can remember.
All are welcome to take part in the climb, including all denominations, until midnight.
Church officials say there is no correct method of praying the steps - you can say Our Fathers, Hail Marys, read biblical verses or simple say personal prayers. You are asked to pray in silence.
Two Good Friday services at Immaculata are planned for today at 2 p.m. and 10 p.m.
