CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A suspect is in custody after a traffic stop and foot pursuit off Columbia Parkway at Kemper Lane early Monday, Cincinnati police officials said.

An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper began chasing a suspect who fled a traffic stop in the area just before 3 a.m., said Lt. Tim Brown, the night chief.

It was not immediately clear why the trooper initiated the traffic stop, Brown said.

The suspect fled into nearby woods, suffering minor injuries, he said.

Cincinnati police responded to assist as soon as they heard the trooper was chasing the suspect on foot, Brown said.

The trooper is OK, Brown said.

A gun and marijuana were recovered, he added.

The highway patrol's Batavia post had no immediate details to provide about the incident, a dispatcher said.

FOX19 NOW will update this story once more information is released.
