An 85-year-old with Dementia who went missing Wednesday was found safe overnight and is back home, police said.

Erlanger police pulled up behind Vernon Banks on Interstate 275 near the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport shortly after authorities issued a statewide critical missing alert, said Miami Township Sgt. Keith Bullock.

"He was working on his car. He thought his car had a problem," Bullock said. "He was fine. We don't really know where he went, but he was gone about five hours. He was found safe and sound."

The alert went out Wednesday after Banks left his Milburne Drive residence in Clermont County's Miami Township about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Banks was last seen traveling on State Route 28, taking the exit for Wolfpen Pleasant Hill Road headed northbound.
