Congressional delegation to attend John Paul II's funeral
Ohio Senator Mike DeWine and Representative John Boehner are among the handful of legislators making the pilgrimage to Rome for Friday's funeral of Pope John Paul the Second.
Aides said members of Congress started asking their party leaders for sought-after slots to attend the funeral even before the pope died. Spots for the trip are at such a premium that Ohio Senator George Voinovich will miss the funeral despite asking to go.
Dozens of legislators will attend the Mass but some might have to sleep on the planes that get them there.
Officials estimated that the influx of pilgrims could double Rome's population by the weekend. It wasn't immediately clear if other legislators from Ohio would make the trip.
