A 34-year-old man is accused of child endangering and tapering with evidence after police say his girlfriend died from a suspected heroin overdose while her two small children were home.
Steve K. Lay is held at the Warren County jail. He is set to face a judge Thursday afternoon.
He was arrested after Lebanon police said they responded to a report of an unresponsive woman from an apparent heroin overdose about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Several officers and the Lebanon Fire Department arrived at an apartment in the 1100 block of East Main Street. They found Shawna L. Mitchell, 35, dead inside.
Her boyfriend, Lay, and the children, ages 10 and 1, also were home at the time.
Lay was arrested on two counts of child endangering and one count of tampering with evidence.
An investigation remains ongoing.
