Prince's secret show in Cincinnati

Prince's secret show in Cincinnati

CORRYVILLE, OH (FOX19) - It was 1984, just before Prince was to go on a huge tour. He stopped by Bogarts in Corryville and played a secret show. Only a local radio station and the owner of Bogarts knew who was flying in to perform.

Al Porkolab, the owner of the club at time knew, but was sworn to secrecy.

He said the secret began to get out when a local radio station began playing his hit song, "199" all day. The day of the show, a radio station announced that a purple private plane had landed at Lunken airport, according to Porkolab.
The secret was out and soon Bogarts was sold out. At the time, about 1,400 people got to see the, "Red, White, and Blue Tour" for only five bucks.
That was the name Prince used before hitting the road for his Purple Rain Tour.

Porkolab said he's pretty sure the show started with the hit song, "Let's Go Crazy." Which he said the crowd fittingly did.

Besides the secret show, our records show Prince performed in the Queen City several times.
