Cincinnati Public Schools Gets New Leader

(AP & WXIX) The Cincinnati school district has a new superintendent. Rosa Blackwell was given a contract today to serve as superintendent through July 31st, 2008. Officials said details of the contract will be worked out later. The 57-year-old Blackwell has worked for the Cincinnati school district 33 years since starting as a teacher in 1972. She had been serving as interim superintendent since Alton Frailey resigned effective in February. Blackwell says, "It is a distinct honor and absolute pleasure and I feel in addition very blessed." Blackwell could get a raise from the $180,000 annual salary she has been receiving as interim superintendent. She is married to Ohio Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, a former Cincinnati mayor.
