MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) -

The 5-year old Middletown boy, who police say was beaten to death by his mother and two of her friends, will have a proper funeral, thanks to the Middletown police department.

Police said Alexander Stephens and his 6-year old brother were beaten for hours by their mother and her two friends as punishment.

The police department, along with other community members, have decided to fund Alexander's funeral.

"A lot of people in their heroic efforts have been touched by his life and touched by this tragedy," said Middletown Police Chaplain Lamar Ferrell.

Visitation will be on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Baker Stevens Parramore Funeral Home in Middletown.

The funeral will follow at 11 a.m.

The boys' mother Theresa Hawkins-Stephens and her friend Rachael Bostian have each been charged with murder.  The other woman, Ramona Bostian faces lesser charges.

Middletown Police Department expressed their condolences on Facebook after responding to the scene: "Tough day today for the Middletown police officers and fire medics who responded to the call at the motel Wednesday night, as one of the boys passed away this morning."
