CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

If you are Type O, Hoxworth wants you.

Hoxworth Blood Center University of Cincinnati released emergency appeal for Type O blood Friday.

All eligible individuals are being asked to donate blood immediately, especially Type O negative donors.

There is a critical need for this particular blood type. It is the universal donor type that can be given to any patient in need, but only 6 percent of the population has it.

“The supply of Type O blood in the Tri-State has plummeted," said Hoxworth spokeswoman Alecia Lipton in a prepared statement.

"O Negative supplies are 41 percent below levels considered necessary to meet daily and emergency needs. The situation is considered critical."

To donate, schedule an appointment by calling 513-451-0910. Or, visit www.hoxworth.org.
