CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - If you are Type O, Hoxworth wants you.
Hoxworth Blood Center University of Cincinnati released emergency appeal for Type O blood Friday.
All eligible individuals are being asked to donate blood immediately, especially Type O negative donors.
There is a critical need for this particular blood type. It is the universal donor type that can be given to any patient in need, but only 6 percent of the population has it.
"The supply of Type O blood in the Tri-State has plummeted," said Hoxworth spokeswoman Alecia Lipton in a prepared statement.
"O Negative supplies are 41 percent below levels considered necessary to meet daily and emergency needs. The situation is considered critical."
