CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The Cincinnati Museum Center continues packing up artifacts and exhibits ahead of its massive restoration project.

The mastodon skeleton at the entrance of the museum will be crated and the public is invited to watch the process, which started at 10 a.m. Monday.

The careful work is usually done after hours but the museum wants to allow the public a behind-the-scenes perspective to see their curators and exhibit team doing what they do best.

This is part of a two-month process of preparations for much needed renovations, following years of deterioration.

The Museum of Natural History and Science and the Cincinnati History Museum will close on June 30.

The museums are scheduled to reopen in late 2018.

The Duke Energy Children’s Museum and special exhibits gallery will remain open through the restoration.
