PLEASANT RIDGE, OH (FOX19) -

Remke Markets will close its Pleasant Ridge location next month, the independent grocer announced Monday.

The 54 associates at the store, located at 3240 Highland Avenue, will have the opportunity to explore positions at other stores, according to a spokesperson.

The grocer decided not to renew the lease at its Highland store location in favor of focusing on “on remodels and upgrades in more viable store locations.” Taylor Mill and Skytop locations are both in the beginning phases of renovations.

Store officials also say they are exploring e-commerce opportunities.

The store will close Saturday, June 25 depending on the liquidation of current inventory, which is set to begin Tuesday, May 31.

Employees who don’t transition to another store will receive outplacement support and eligible associates will receive severance benefits, according to a Remke press release.

“It’s always a difficult decision to close a store, as we are committed to our customers and associates across all of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky,” said Remke President Matthew Remke. “ We will continue delivering on our promise of a local, neighborhood grocery with exceptional service in a convenient location. There is definitely customer demand for Remke’s neighborhood shopping experience in this very competitive grocery market. I’m genuinely excited about the good things on the horizon, as we remain steadfast in our focus on our loyal customers and valued associates.”
