Florence Police are searching for a suspect who jumped over the counter of a Walgreens, held a pharmacist at gunpoint and demanded prescription drugs.
Police said they responded for a robbery in progress at the Walgreens on Mall Road at approximately 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
The pharmacist told Florence police, an unknown male was sitting in the waiting area of the pharmacy. When the pharmacist turned his back to fill a prescription the suspect proceeded to jump over the counter and produced a handgun.
The male then gave the pharmacist a note demanding a list of medications.
While held at gunpoint, the pharmacist gathered the medications on the list and placed them in a backpack that the suspect had with him, police said.
The suspect had the pharmacist lay on the ground and he removed cash and personal identification from the pharmacist’s wallet before fleeing from the store on foot.
Police describe the suspect as a black male, thin build, wearing a blue hat, blue sweatshirt and dark jeans. He also had a mustache and carried a gray backpack with black trim and small checkered pattern on it.
