DAYTON, OH (FOX19) - University of Dayton basketball player Steve McElvene passed away at the age of 20, multiple news agencies are reporting.
McElvene, from New Haven, IN, collapsed at his family's home, Glenn Marini of WANE-TV is reporting. Marini tweeted that an enlarged heart is believed to be the cause.
The redshirt sophomore center sat out his freshman year and saw the court for the first time last season.
He averaged 6.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in 18 minutes a game last season. He set UD's freshman record for blocks in a season.
