Sunscreens may not offer as much UV protection as promised. A Consumer Report found 43 percent of sunscreens failed to meet the SPF claim on the bottle.

The report investigated 65 sunscreen lotions, sprays and sticks with an SPF of at least 30. The report found the Banana Boat Kids Tear-Free, Sting-Free SPF 50 and the CVS Kids Sun Lotion SPF 50 both tested at an SPF of 8.

Consumer reports also dismissed the idea of a waterproof sunscreen, saying “no such product exists.” Many of them field to protect people who were in the water 30 minutes or more.

For your best shot at protection, experts recommend choosing a chemical sunscreen, with an SPF of at least 40.

Here is the report's list of the best preforming sunscreens:

La Roche-Posay Anthellos 60 Melt-In Sunscreen Milk lotion

Pure Sun Defense SPF 50 lotion

Banana Boat SunComfort Continuous Spray SPF 50+

Aveeno Protect + Hydrate SPF 30

No-Ad Sport SPF 50 lotion

Equate Sport Continuous Spray SPF 5
