MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati Police are investigating a hit-skip accident that critically injured a man crossing the street.

Officers responded to Ebersole Ave. in Madisonville for reports of a person down in the roadway.

First responders found Reginald Young, 56, critically injured. He was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Cincinnati Police investigators say they were able to locate video from a nearby business that shows a dark-colored vehicle striking Young as he walked westbound on Madison Rd. and crossed Ebersole Ave.

The vehicle was traveling westbound on Madison Rd., turned south onto Ebersole and struck Young, police said. Investigators said the vehicle fled south on Ebersole Ave.

“When you review the video, you'll see that the car, when it strikes the pedestrian, hits the brakes.  He or she, whoever the driver is of the car, there's no doubt they know they hit something,” Lt. Bruce Hoffbauer told FOX19 NOW.

Young was in an unmarked crosswalk as he attempted to cross the street, according to the Cincinnati Police Department.

Excessive speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

"I think the person driving that car probably frequents that area.  It's not a street you would go down if you didn't know the area,” Hoffbauer said.

The Cincinnati Police Department's Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. Anyone with information is encouraged to call (513) 352-2514.
