FC Cincinnati won its second round game of the U.S. Open Cup 2-1 against the Indy Eleven NPSL, which was its first ever win in the tournament at Nippert Stadium Wednesday night.
After a called handball on Indy in the box in the 36th minute, forward Omar Cummings stepped up to take the penalty. The veteran who originally played collegiate soccer at the University of Cincinnati had no issue finding the back of the net to put his team up 1-0.
Three minutes following the earned penalty Vince Mitchell netted the equalizer for Indy off of an assist from Christian Soto-Jaquez.
The score remained 1-1 heading into halftime until the 61st minute where midfielder Jimmy McLaughlin came off of the bench to pull FC Cincinnati ahead 2-1.
A total of 8,668 FC Cincinnati faithful were in attendance for the victory. FC Cincinnati will go on to face the Tampa Bay Rowdies in Florida for the third round of the U.S. Open Cup.
