$3.5 million for eastside recreation center

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The City of Cincinnati has committed $3.5 million to build a new recreation center for residents on the eastside.

Councilmembers P.G Sittenfeld and Amy Murray made the announcement at the Oakley Community and Senior Center on Saturday.

The proposal commits $2 million of this year's budget and an additional $1.5 million in next year's capital budget.

Neighborhood leaders still have to raise $2 million before they can move forward with a plan. Councilman Sittenfeld said that money will probably come from private donations and fundraising efforts.

This new facility will serve around 10 percent of the city's population.
