Save gas, crank the AC

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - If you want to stay cool and save fuel during your long memorial day drive, roll up the windows and turn on the air conditioner.

Running the AC in your car will increase fuel consumption by 10 percent to 20 percent, but it's actually more efficient than driving with the windows down at highway speeds.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) says that's because open windows increase the car's aerodynamic drag, making your engine work harder.

To achieve maximum fuel efficiency, drivers should avoid using the air conditioner at speeds below 40 mph and travel with their window down.
