CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Bengals backup quarterback AJ McCarron and his wife Katherine Webb-McCarron welcomed their first child into the world Tuesday night.

The former University of Alabama player announced the birth of his son, Tripp, via Twitter at around around 8:45 p.m.

AJ and Katherine announced on social media they were expecting a baby in December.

Since the December announcement, Katherine has shared updates on social media, including a photo of her Bengals-themed baby shower.

AJ and Katherine married in July of 2014, a few months after he was drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round.

Near the end of last season, McCarron filled in for starter Andy Dalton, who suffered a season-ending thumb injury.

In four starts -- including the Bengals' 18-16 wild card round loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, he led Cincinnati to a 2-2 record. McCarron also threw five touchdown passes and had an interception in those games.
