NEW RICHMOND, OH (FOX19) -

It was graduation night Friday at New Richmond High School.

Hundreds of students crossed the stage with their own unique stories - One of those stories included a surprise of a lifetime.

Cassie Smith was shocked to see her brother, Ben Smith, who had been deployed overseas, standing before her.

For this family, the support they have for one another is everything.

"Family comes first before everything," Ben said. "We had been planning this for a couple days now while, but some issues came up with getting leave approved and it took some time, but was able to get it approved last minute and drove home early Thursday morning."

Cassie had no idea her brother would be able to come to the ceremony until her name was called to center stage.

"She's also the baby of the family so I knew I had to plan something big for her - something special," said Ben.

The entire family was joyful as they watched the two reunite.

"If I have to sacrifice everything for them, meaning the time I give for them, the time I spend away to keep them safe that way they get the freedoms they deserve," Ben said.

"They will always come first in my book and I do that by serving in the United State Navy."
